Unplanned expenses are common. Thankfully, resources are available for members of the Air Force community. The Air Force Aid Society, or AFAS, supports active-duty and retired airmen and their families, eligible guard and reserve members, and the dependents of deceased Air Force personnel who died on active duty or in retired status.

Through its emergency financial assistance, education support and community enhancement programs, AFAS works to support and enhance the U.S. Air Force mission by improving readiness and ensuring that airmen remain mission focused.

If and when financial emergencies occur, AFAS provides emergency assistance in the form of no-interest loans and grants to meet the immediate needs of airmen and their families.

Air Force families can also take advantage of the variety of community programs AFAS offers on base focused on providing basic parenting skills, child care services, vehicle care and spouse employment entry-level job training. Because AFAS considers education an essential element for future success, the dependent children and spouses of eligible airmen may apply for AFAS education grants, scholarships and loans to help offset college educational costs.

Visit your local Airman and Family Readiness Center to learn more about specific programs and services AFAS offers. Learn more about AFAS by visiting afas.org or following it on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
