Unexpected financial needs can come up while you are in the military, just like they do in the civilian world. Military relief societies, including Army Emergency Relief, or AER, are there to support you in the event of unplanned expenses like car and appliance repairs, short-notice travel or medical situations. Find out how planning now can help you maximize your resources in times of need.

AER is a private, nonprofit organization that has been “Helping the Army Take Care of its Own” for more than 74 years. It provides immediate financial assistance for a wide variety of financial needs — such as rent, utilities and emergency travel — with no interest or fees.

A helpful loan calculator allows you to quickly look up monthly payments, determine the best borrowing solution and choose an easy payment option for repaying emergency loans. Commonly requested resources and forms are also available along with hurricane resources for survivors of recent natural disasters.

AER also provides undergraduate scholarships to spouses and children of both active and retired soldiers. You’ll find information on scholarships, resources by state and a guidebook for veterans seeking educational opportunities.

Follow the Office of Financial Readiness on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for more resources to help you handle unexpected expenses and plan for a sound financial future. Look for more on YouTube and the FINRED blog.
